Physical truth – be aware
Ascribed abstract and emotive concepts like love, joy, need, want, sadness aren’t useful information. Physical sensations are useful information. What happens to the body that isn’t under our control. That’s what’s significant in evaluating a situation or relationship.
When he sings “I can’t get this feeling off my mind… I want you… I need you” his want and need are abstract expressions of physical sensations. The feeling might be on his mind but it’s in his body. One of the important features of good coaching and counselling is to be aware of and to explore the interface between physical sensations and our emotions. Even if we start to say things like “I get a knotted feeling in my stomach when I think of him/her” or “I have a tightness in my chest when I think of my mistake” it helps to bridge the gap and to make us more aware.
Truth is an essential part of becoming aware. Physicality is the closest to truth we can get.
